Milk Thistle is effective, in part, because it contains a very high concentration of silymarin and silbins. These “silly” compounds reduce harmful free radical production through the inhibition of xanthine oxidase, decrease triglyceride accumulation in fat cells by attenuating the activity of fat-generating enzymes, minimize the amount of acne by maintaining healthy skin cells, and help regenerate new liver tissue by increasing protein synthesis. Turmeric’s most active ingredient is curcumin.
